Off the Hook: Extreme Catches Airs New Episodes Plumbing the Weird and Wild World of Extreme Fishing
Animal Planet’s Off the Hook: Extreme Catches is airing new episodes beginning January 15 at 9:00 p.m., offering viewers a glimpse into the world of extreme fishing where brave adventurers catch sharks with pantyhose or launch live bait with fire extinguishers.
“Showtime” Eric Young, a Canadian professional wrestler and television personality, hosts the show, traveling across North America and exotic locales in search of the world’s most extreme fishing techniques.
This new season is poised to be even bigger, wilder, and stranger. Young will take a stab at everything from catching massive tarpon on stand-up kayaks to spearfishing poisonous lionfish to slingshot bait fishing for sturgeon.
He’ll also travel to extreme environments. In Alaska, Young will join a crew of hardened cod fishermen on the Bering Sea and snowmobile to remote lakes to ice fish for invasive northern pike.
As for the tropical side of extreme fishing, Young will dodge sharks and spearfish off the coast of Puerto Rico, and hunt alligators and hand-line a 300-pound goliath grouper in Florida and Texas.
In each episode, Young not only meets exotic, dangerous fish, but interesting characters as well. For example, Young joins up with Awesome John and Gary “The Toad,” extreme surfcasters on the hunt for striped bass and bluefish. There’s also Rattlin’ Randy, a Texas sling-bow fisherman with a veritable arsenal of fishing weaponry.
Viewers unable to watch the premiere of the episodes can catch encores every Friday at 2:00 p.m., Saturday at 7:00 p.m and Sunday at 10:00 a.m.
