Want to live to 90?

They are the fathers of fathers and supposed to be 90 to 100 years old. A land mark study of thousands of members of a retirement community in Southern California revealed interesting factors about longevity. Some of the factors revealed in this study are very common like smoking is injurious to health and threat to life and exercise can boost up your lifespan. But, there were few shocking revelations. The study claims that vitamins cannot prolong your life rather some extra weight can prolong your existence.

Besides, Dr. Claudia Kawas of the University of California, Irvine, called this study as equivalent to gold mine. She said that “it was really surprising for me when I came to know that 14,000 residents of a retirement community previously known as “Leisure World” filled the questionnaire about their medical history, exercise, diet and vitamin intake”.

Actually, she was given a project called “90+” and she had got $6 million from the National Institutes of Health to complete the research. Prior to beginning with the research, she took all 14,000 files from the retirement community. It is said that she had located more 1600 people who are more than 90 years of age.

Apart from this, Dr. Kawas said that “though exercise helps us to live longer yet the contribution of socializing, attending book clubs, and playing board games should not be neglected”. Furthermore, she says that when you are old, it is good to be skinny.

Last but not the least, She told Stahl that those who used to drink two alcoholic drinks per day have almost 10 to 15 percent more chances of longevity compared to non drinkers.
